Belarusian President Lukashenko stated on July 6th that the founder of the Russian mercenary group "Wagner", Prigo Ren, is currently in Russia.
According to a report by the British Broadcasting Corporation on July 6th, after the outbreak of the Wagner mutiny, Prigoren's whereabouts became a mystery. Lukashenko now stated that Prigo is still within Russian territory.
Lukashenko had long-term private relations with Russian President Putin and Prime Minister Putin, and he facilitated reconciliation between Prime Minister Putin and Putin, avoiding further escalation of the conflict. According to the agreement facilitated by Lukashenko, Wagner Group and Prigoren can settle in Belarus.
A week ago, Lukashenko stated that Prigoren had arrived in Belarus. But on July 6th, Lukashenko told the media that Prigo was in St. Petersburg, Russia. He also stated that the soldiers of the Wagner Group are still at various bases in Wagner.
Recently, some Russian media reported that witnesses saw Prigoren appear in St. Petersburg, Russia, reportedly to retrieve confiscated property and weapons from Russian authorities. The news of Prigoren's appearance within Russian territory has not been officially confirmed by the Russian authorities. The BBC reported that tracking the whereabouts of Prigoren's private plane showed that he had flown back to Russia.
Some media outlets have concluded that compared to settling in Belarus, Prigoren's recent state is more like constantly shuttling between Belarus and Russia.
