Open the latest version of the Catalogue of Undergraduate Majors in Ordinary Higher Education Institutions by the Ministry of Education, and 792 majors are displayed in front of us.
Extracting common words from the names of all majors, "intelligence" and "wisdom" are prominent among numerous traditional professional terms as high-frequency words. These two words have been added before basic disciplines such as medicine, transportation, and agriculture. The power of information technology will penetrate more industries in the future.
According to publicly available data from the Ministry of Education, we have collected nearly 8000 records of new major registrations and approvals from over 1200 universities over the past four years. After analyzing the number of schools adding various majors, it was found that 40 majors were not applied for by schools in the previous three years, but increased this year. Among them, one-fifth of the majors are related to the ecological environment. Beijing University of Chemical Technology, which ranks among the top in the world in the field of chemistry, has added a resource chemistry major to study the effective utilization of natural resources; Tarim University, located in Xinjiang, has added a new major in soil and water conservation and desertification prevention; Beijing Forestry University has added a new major in National Park Construction and Management. 147 "Double First Class" universities promoted by the country have established 140 new majors this year, including "Planetary Science", "Quantum Information Science", "Biomaterials", and "Future Robotics".
