According to the New York Post on July 17th, a tugboat recently sank in the Tennessee River in the United States, causing thousands of gallons of diesel to flow into the water, and multiple beaches and parks in Alabama were forced to close.
The local police said on the 16th that after the ship sank, 3000 to 5000 gallons of diesel were discharged into the river. Around 10am that day, some diesel fuel was washed ashore. After the local government discovered it, residents were required to avoid going swimming until further notice was received.

It is currently unclear what caused the ship to sink, and it is also unclear what impact it may have on the environment. The local government has not yet specified how long the cleaning work will take.
