Ugandan police spokesperson Fred Enanga announced on social media on the 17th that the Democratic Alliance Army attacked the local Rubirila Middle School on the evening of the 16th, setting fire to a dormitory and looting a food storage room. The bodies of 25 victims have been found at school and have been taken to the hospital. Eight other injured individuals are currently receiving treatment in the hospital's critical care unit.
According to local media reports, the attack resulted in a total of 41 deaths, including 17 students who were killed by bombs placed by armed militants in schools. Some students were also kidnapped by armed militants, but the exact number is unknown.
After being besieged by the Ugandan government in the late 1990s, the Democratic Alliance Army fled to the eastern region of Congo and has been entrenched to this day. In addition to engaging in anti Ugandan government activities, the Democratic Alliance Army also frequently attacks local residents, as well as Congolese security forces and United Nations peacekeeping forces. Starting from December 2021, Uganda has dispatched troops to Congo and the two countries have launched joint military operations to jointly combat the Democratic Alliance Army.
