"In 2016, we started carrying the national flag on motorcycles," Captain Shijiao told reporters. "Why do we plant the national flag on motorcycles? Because we have to go to the front line of the border when patrolling, and we need to make the national flag fly in every corner of the border."

Changguo Township is a border township bordering Nepal, with a 105 kilometer border line and 5 outer mountain passes. Living on the frontline of the border, herdsmen have a clear understanding of what border security means.
"When I was a child grazing, some strangers who illegally crossed the border would suddenly break into the tent," remembers Nima, a member of the Border Defense Force in her 50s. They will have to eat and use, and the herdsmen can only huddle in the corner of the tent, afraid to make a sound.
As the border becomes increasingly secure, the herdsmen feel more at ease and full of respect for the border guards. In 1996, the Changguo Border Defense Workstation was established, and Shijiao became a translator between officers, soldiers, and herdsmen. Seeing that Shijiao's family was facing financial difficulties, the officers and soldiers often sent him comfort items, offered him vocational training, and even helped his family open a small shop, and his life improved day by day.
"In 1996, I took the initiative to apply to become a joint defense team member, and I was the only one at that time," Shi Jiao told reporters. At that time, his main job was not only to translate and guide, but also to participate in border patrols with officers and soldiers. "My hometown is located on the front line of the motherland's border, and guarding the border is a very important job. At that time, I did this without salary or subsidies, and I volunteered to help."

In 2003, the news that the Changguo Border Police Station was going to form a border protection joint defense team reached Shijiao's ears, and he immediately rushed to the police station to be the first to register. At that time, the border defense team only had 15 people. In October 2005, Changguo Township suffered a severe snow disaster. At a time of crisis, the border protection joint defense team where Shijiao was located spontaneously formed a "rescue and relief assault team" and worked hard with the officers and soldiers for three days and three nights to open up more than ten kilometers of snow blocked roads, successfully rescuing 152 snow trapped people and more than 15000 livestock, and recovering direct economic losses of more than 4.2 million yuan for the people.
The days of patrolling and protecting the border are accompanied by hardships. When the team was first established, they didn't have motorcycles and could only ride horses. They had to walk for four or five days on a patrol, and then they carried tents, food, and bedding all on horses. "At that time, many places had no roads, no electricity, and no mobile phones." Shi Jiao recalled the situation back then and told reporters that he bought a motorcycle in 2004. In the past, it used to take four to five days to ride horses and patrol the border, and riding a motorcycle was enough for a day. Because patrolling and protecting the border was very convenient, Shijiao's friends all thought it was good. Therefore, in 2006, under the leadership of Shijiao, members of the Border Protection Joint Defense Team jointly applied to the police station: "Voluntarily invest in purchasing motorcycles to better participate in border duty and patrols." In June of that year, due to his active and hardworking work, Shijiao was recommended as the captain of the Border Protection Joint Defense Team. Since then, for over a decade, Shijiao has always regarded riding a motorcycle to patrol and protect the edges as a part of his life.

"People need to do things that are beneficial to the people. I have not received much education or education, but I was born under the Five Star Red Flag and grew up on the border. In 2008, the Border Protection Joint Defense Force expanded its recruitment, with a salary of only 200 yuan. However, more than 100 herdsmen signed up for 20 positions, and some even requested a non salary competition. "Our lives are very good now, and we don't really care about these one or two hundred yuan. We just think that being a border guard is a very honorable thing, and guarding a happy home is our obligation and responsibility." Shi Jiao gave his answer to this phenomenon, "Only last year until now, 13 people have joined, and our border guard team now has a total of 103 people.
