The documentary series "Everyone Talks about Innovation" jointly produced by the Propaganda Department of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, the External Propaganda Office of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, and the Wenhui Newspaper will be launched online from July 3, telling the vivid practice of Shanghai accelerating the construction of a globally influential science and technology innovation center from the perspective of experts. "That was around 3am on July 19, 2021. Before getting up and setting off, I talked to my father in my dream about my work and career, who had already left. That day was the launch day of the 10th group of satellites of the remote sensing 30th satellite, and my father seemed to be silently wishing us well."
Cheng Rui said that this dream made her feel like there was an intersection of time and space with her father. My father once defended the border in Ali region for 19 years, using his own body to guard the motherland. "As a technology worker in the new era, I use technology to serve the country and strengthen the country. Suddenly, I feel that we are actually doing the same thing."
Small satellites, big dreams. Launching 90 satellites in 20 years is like a legend. And such a miracle happened at the Institute of Microsatellite Innovation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, in the city of innovation in Shanghai. Cheng Rui, born in the 1980s, obtained a master's degree from Xi'an University of Electronic Science and Technology and came to Shanghai to engage in satellite research and development, rooted in this innovative land. She is down-to-earth, daring to think and work hard. As a core backbone, she successfully completed the development of more than 40 satellites, developed China's first global carbon dioxide monitoring satellite, and completed the network operation of China's first low orbit satellite constellation - "Remote Sensing Thirty Satellite Constellation", becoming the only female among the first outstanding engineers in Shanghai.
"The 20-year journey has been arduous, innovative, and constantly challenging oneself." Cheng Rui said that innovation has always been their gene, accompanying their growth. "New technologies will definitely be tested here, and our scientists have such a spirit."
Basic innovation, serving the country and the people. She believes that we should actively explore the construction of a new national system for tackling key core technologies, and focus on tackling the pain points, difficulties, and long-term potential points of development. "Only by concentrating our efforts to accomplish great things is this the unique success weapon of the Chinese people." To achieve deep level technological innovation, it is still necessary to connect the entire innovation chain and achieve tangible innovation.
She sighed and said, "It is a great happiness for the Satellite Innovation Institute to be located in Shanghai, and we are actively joining the construction of the Shanghai Science and Technology Innovation Center." Shanghai insists on placing scientific and technological innovation at the core of modernization construction, continuously strengthening the function of scientific and technological innovation strategies, and integrating a complete aerospace industry chain. From a small component to a large atmosphere of scientific research, support from universities, market mechanisms, and achievement transformation, all of them are at the forefront of innovative development.
Nameless hero, selfless dedication, supreme glory. In Cheng Rui's view, the aerospace industry is a very difficult but also very happy industry. "Because what we do is to connect our dreams with the universe. When satellites are successfully launched, in orbit with good data applications, and the first image appears clearly on the computer, wow, I'm really proud!"
As a young aerospace technology worker, she also deeply feels the sense of mission and responsibility of this career. "In recent years, against the backdrop of intense competition in the aerospace industry, although we are also striving, there has been no rest abroad, which is a greater challenge for us. From the spirit of 'two bombs and one satellite' to the spirit of the Beidou and 'three nots', we young people will also use practical actions to compose a new spirit of scientists and use new methods to achieve overtaking on curves."
Looking up at the stars and exploring the universe has always been a dream and aspiration pursued by humanity throughout history. Small satellites, like the eyes and hands stretched out by the Earth, touch the universe, explore the vastness of the deep space for humanity, and achieve beautiful "star wishes".
