"The first proposal was rejected, and we were unwilling to accept it. The second time we proposed it, it was rejected again. Many colleagues advised me not to do it again, but I think if I give up, I will lose the opportunity."

More than three months ago, this international standard for containers named "ISO/TS 7352:2013 Container NFC/QR Code Box Seals" was finally released in Geneva. After 12 years, it once again elevated the Chinese invention in the field of transportation and logistics to an international standard. Behind this new invention of technology is an important driving force played by the "innovation consortium". In 2011, East China Normal University established the International Shipping Logistics Research Institute and appointed Bao Qifan as its president. Guided by national strategic needs, it collaborated with relevant departments and units to carry out scientific and technological research. Through the combination of industry, academia, research and application, it laid the foundation for the birth of this innovative achievement.

Looking back on more than a decade of experience, Bao Qifan was filled with emotions. "China's container production, transportation, and throughput are all the world's top, but behind these firsts, there were few voices from the Chinese people in the past. In terms of international standard setting, China should have a greater say."

However, the path of Chinese experts leading the formulation of international standards has been tortuous and arduous. Faced with multiple rejections of proposals, they have not been discouraged and continue to improve them. At the same time, they have strengthened communication and cooperation with experts from various countries, finally ushering in a turning point. With the intelligence and resilience of the Chinese people, they have once again pushed China's invention achievements to the international stage.

From a dock loader to a "grab bucket king", inventor, and pioneer of reform, Bao Qifan has been keeping up with the times and always walking on the path of innovation for over 40 years. Where enterprises are unsafe, inefficient, and need to improve quality, they will use their brains and innovate. He and his colleagues have completed over 130 technological innovation projects and obtained 50 national and international patents. In the first batch of "Scientist Spirit Education Bases" at Shanghai Second Industrial University, the "Baoqifan Innovation Road Exhibition Hall" showcases his decades of technological innovation process and achievements, inspiring the innovative spirit of overcoming difficulties and becoming a science and technology innovation education base for young people in Shanghai.

"Some people say that the construction of the Shanghai International Shipping Center and the Science and Technology Innovation Center is the responsibility of academicians and professors. What does it have to do with ordinary people? I don't think so." Bao Qifan said that the construction of the Science and Technology Innovation Center relies on every Shanghai science and technology worker, accumulating innovation bit by bit. It is a process of gathering sand into a tower, and also the cause of all the people. Starting from job innovation, stand out step by step. "My experience can bring inspiration to many technology workers and young people. Innovation must be persistent and not afraid of difficulties. Today, Bao Qifan is still active on the innovation stage of industry, academia, and research. The International Shipping and Logistics Research Institute of China Normal University is collaborating with various scientific research forces to leverage the advantages of comprehensive and multidisciplinary joint research and development. With the direction of modern logistics "real-time, visualization, traceability, and big data integration", it is carrying out technological innovation and has formed a series of invention achievements.
