This year marks the 10th anniversary of the initiative of jointly building the "the Belt and Road". Over the past 10 years, China has signed more than 200 cooperation documents with more than 150 countries and more than 30 international organizations to jointly build the "the Belt and Road", covering poverty reduction, food security, education and health, green development, digital economy and other fields. According to the World Bank's research report, by 2030, the joint construction of the "the Belt and Road" will increase the trade of participating countries by 2.8% to 9.7%, global trade by 1.7% to 6.2%, and global income by 0.7% to 2.9%.
The initiative of jointly building the "the Belt and Road" has opened up broad development space for jointly building countries and regions. In the past 10 years, under the framework of jointly building the "the Belt and Road", a series of projects have taken root and blossomed. Among them, a group of "small and beautiful" projects focus on development, pay attention to public opinion, focus on small areas, and respond to people's needs with practical actions, becoming a model of people to people communication.
In Mauritania, the animal husbandry technology demonstration center built with China's assistance has achieved large-scale cultivation of purple clover, finding methods to solve the problem of grass livestock balance, and creating an oasis in the Sahara Desert; In Egypt, Chinese companies participating in the planning, design, and construction of national fishery industrial parks provide a solution for the entire aquatic industry chain, promoting the improvement of local aquaculture and processing levels; In Trinidad and Tobago, a Caribbean island country, Chinese enterprises transformed the local Alima Hospital into a professional infectious disease hospital within seven days, delivering 100 beds, two operating rooms, intensive care units and disinfection centers to help the local response to the COVID-19
These "small and beautiful" projects are tailored to local conditions and times, bringing tangible benefits to the people. It is estimated that the joint construction of the "the Belt and Road" initiative is expected to help 7.6 million people around the world shake off extreme poverty and 32 million people shake off moderate poverty. Against the backdrop of slowing global economic growth and uneven economic development, focusing on "small and beautiful" livelihood projects in agriculture, poverty reduction, health, and other fields has effectively improved the production conditions of co built countries and improved the quality of life of the people.
Taking Africa, where I am located, as an example, many countries have long been unable to overcome the predicament of backwardness, and people urgently hope for development and revitalization. The initiative of jointly building the "the Belt and Road" has brought positive changes to regional development. The connectivity of infrastructure has promoted personnel exchanges and trade exchanges, and promoted regional prosperity and development. In some remote areas, Chinese enterprises are participating in projects such as school, residential, road, well construction, and satellite TV popularization, which are making development achievements cover every corner and benefit more people.
The goal of jointly building the "the Belt and Road" is to achieve high standards, sustainability and benefit people's livelihood. These "small and beautiful" projects have small scale, short cycle, and good benefits, and their implementation helps promote global sustainable and inclusive development. In the future, it is expected that China will continue to work with other countries and regions to promote the high-quality development of the "the Belt and Road", pave the way for mutual benefit and win-win results, and enable more people to benefit from the joint construction of the "the Belt and Road" by implementing a series of "small and beautiful" projects.
