Latest! Thaksin is preparing to apply for a pardon
According to Reuters on August 30th, former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin's lawyer stated that he is preparing documents to apply for a royal pardon, but when to submit the application will be up to Thaksin to decide.
According to reports, after 15 years of self exile, Thaksin returned to Thailand last week in a highly anticipated manner. After landing on a private plane, he was transferred to prison to serve his sentence. Thaksin was sentenced to eight years in prison on charges of abuse of power and other charges.
A few hours after his arrival, Seta Thaksin, a member of the Thai party supported by the Thaksin family, easily passed a parliamentary vote to become prime minister, sparking speculation that Thaksin had reached an agreement with conservatives and the military who had overthrown him in 2006 and 2014.
Both Thaksin and the Thai party have denied this claim.
On his first night in Thailand, Thaksin was transferred to a police hospital due to chest pain and high blood pressure.
According to reports, Thaksin's lawyer Wenya Chamorri told Reuters on the 30th that the former prime minister is preparing documents to apply for a royal pardon.
Wen Ya said, "He believes he is currently working on it and is in the stage of preparing documents and drafting applications." Wen Ya also said that the legal team has not yet seen the application.
Wen Ya stated that when to submit the application will be decided by Thaksin himself.
