In less than three years, Niger became the third Sahel country to experience a military coup, following neighboring Mali and Burkina Faso. Last week, President Mohammad Bazum was overthrown by his own presidential guard.
According to Reuters, the Italian Foreign Minister announced on the 1st that the government will arrange a chartered plane to the capital of Niger, Niamey, to pick up its citizens.
Unexpectedly, Antonio Tajani said on social media X, "The Italian government has decided to provide an opportunity for compatriots in Niamey to return to Italy by charter flight."
