According to the "2022 Fourth Quarter Civil Affairs Statistics" released on the official website of the Ministry of Civil Affairs on June 9, the number of marriage registrations in China last year was 6.833 million, reaching a new low.
In 2021, the number of marriage registrations in China was 7.636 million, which has set a new historical low since the Ministry of Civil Affairs released marriage data in 1986.
According to data statistics from the Ministry of Civil Affairs, China's marriage data began to decline year by year in 2014, reaching 13.4693 million in 2013, falling below the 10 million mark in 2019, and then falling below the 8 million mark in 2021. In 2022, the number of marriage registrations in China decreased by 803000 pairs compared to the previous year, a decrease of approximately 10.5%.
At present, the marriage registration data for the first quarter of 2023 has not been disclosed.
In terms of divorce registration, according to statistics from the Ministry of Civil Affairs, 2.1 million couples registered for divorce in 2022, a decrease of about 1.8% from 2.139 million in 2021.
