French President Macron, German Chancellor Scholz, and Polish President Duda held talks in Paris on the evening of June 12th local time. The leaders of the three countries focused on discussing the situation in Ukraine.
The meeting held that evening was a leadership meeting under the Weimar Triangle mechanism. Macron met with Duda and Scholz respectively at the É lys é e Palace in Paris, and the three of them attended a press conference together, followed by a work dinner.
According to the meeting agenda announced by the French authorities earlier, the leaders of the three countries will focus on discussing issues such as continuing to provide assistance to Ukraine. The assistance provided by the three countries to Ukraine includes military and humanitarian assistance. In terms of military assistance, the French side hopes to further promote internal coordination within Europe through this meeting; In terms of humanitarian assistance, the three countries will focus on the humanitarian needs of Ukraine after the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station, which resulted in the dam breaking.
At the press conference, Macron confirmed that Ukraine's counterattack had begun; Assist the Ukrainian side as much as possible within the set range. He stated that he will continue to provide military equipment such as weapons, ammunition, and armored vehicles to the Ukrainian side in the coming weeks.
According to French media, this meeting also involves sensitive issues such as how to provide "security guarantees" to Ukraine. The leaders of the three countries did not disclose specific details. The issue is said to be discussed at the NATO summit to be held in Lithuania next month.
NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg previously claimed that Ukraine needs to be provided with "security guarantees". Russia has repeatedly emphasized that Ukraine's accession to NATO is Russia's "red line". Germany and other countries still hold a cautious attitude towards Ukraine's accession to NATO.
The Weimar Triangle is a regular meeting mechanism for France, Germany, and Poland to coordinate their positions and strengthen cooperation. During the Munich Security Conference in February this year, the leaders of the three countries held talks.
