On July 22, 2023 local time, Kenyan President Luto met with Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Director of the Central Foreign Affairs Office, who was visiting Kenya in Nairobi.
Luto stated that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kenya and China 60 years ago, the relationship between the two countries has developed smoothly, and strengthening friendly cooperation with China has become a consensus among all sectors of Kenya. The Kenyan side highly appreciates China's consistent attitude of mutual respect in its exchanges with Kenya. The Chinese side has provided valuable assistance to Kenya's infrastructure construction through partnership, and the landmark project, the Mombasa Nairobi Railway, has completely changed the face of Kenya. Kenya is firmly committed to deepening Kenya China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, and is willing to strengthen inter party exchanges with China, deepen cooperation in railway, highway, water conservancy, aviation, renewable energy and other fields under the framework of jointly building the "the Belt and Road" and the Forum on China Africa Cooperation, promote connectivity and integration in Africa, and achieve mutual benefit and win-win results. The Kenyan side supports and will actively participate in the global development initiative proposed by China.
Wang Yi said that the friendship between China and Kenya is rooted in the struggle for national independence and liberation, and has a strong political foundation and solid public support in the joint efforts for development. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations 60 years ago, China and Kenya have treated each other equally, supported each other, united and revitalized, becoming good friends who trust each other politically and good partners for economic cooperation and win-win results. China views and develops China Kenya relations from a strategic perspective, and is willing to work with Kenya to take the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations as a new starting point, align the revitalization strategies of the two countries, focus on development cooperation, and promote the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Kenya to a new level in the new era.
Wang Yi stated that both sides need to strengthen the strategic guidance of the leaders of the two countries, enhance political mutual trust, and close exchanges in various fields such as government and political parties. China firmly supports the Kenyan side in safeguarding sovereignty, independence, and national dignity, supporting the Kenyan side in combating terrorism, and supporting the Kenyan side in pursuing a development path that is in line with its own national conditions. China is willing to actively promote cooperation with Kenya in railway, highway, aviation, information and other fields, help Kenya's economic and social development, and promote African integration in combination with the joint construction of the "the Belt and Road" and the implementation of the global development initiative and the "nine projects" of the Forum on China Africa Cooperation.
