On July 4th, Ms. Liu's family stated in an interview that they had also lost contact with a male friend from Shanxi. Family members revealed that on July 3rd, Ms. Liu's vehicle was found in the river, but there was no one in the car.

At around 2am on June 30th, Ms. Liu reported to the police that a flash flood had occurred and provided an approximate location. Panlong Town belongs to Shuicheng District, Liupanshui City. After the incident, the public security and emergency departments of Shuicheng District, as well as the propaganda department of Shuicheng District Committee, have stated that local public security and fire departments have invested manpower to search and rescue. A week after the incident, on July 7th, staff from the Propaganda Department of the Shuicheng District Committee told reporters that the vehicle driven by Ms. Liu had been salvaged and brought ashore, but the missing person had not been found. The staff stated that the incident occurred in the Xiaotianba reservoir area of Qingshui River in Panlong Town. Due to the heavy rainfall in the area for several consecutive days, as well as the long river and previous flash floods causing many areas to collapse, it has increased the difficulty of search and rescue. On the afternoon of August 9th, staff from the Propaganda Department of Shuicheng District Committee told reporters that after full search and rescue by departments such as public security, fire protection, and emergency management, as well as the Blue Sky Rescue Team and a diving rescue team from Chongqing, on July 15th, rescue personnel found a male corpse in the river of Daye Gou in Houchang Township downstream. After DNA comparison, it was confirmed that he was a missing man from Shanxi. At present, Ms. Liu has not been found and the search and rescue work is still ongoing.
Ms. Liu's family also confirmed that according to their understanding, the body of a Shanxi man who was lost together was cremated on July 25th and taken away by his family.
