Ningxia Jingyuan: Small Mushroom Grows into a Big Industry, Releasing New Vitality for Revitalization in Cowshed | Mushroom | Ningxia Jingyuan
Recently, in Jingyuan County, Guyuan City, Ningxia, mushrooms in various mushroom orchards have had a bumper harvest. Farmers carry buckets and baskets, shuttle between the mushroom sticks, picking, transporting, and drying... a busy harvest scene. In addition to honey and Jingyuan beef, another "Jingyuan good product" has been brought to the dining table of consumers.
In the mushroom garden under the forest of Shanan Village, perfume Town, Jingyuan, rows of hanging mushroom sticks are arranged orderly and lively. Nowadays, harvested products such as fungus, shiitake mushrooms, and morel mushrooms are gradually being sold to markets in Xi'an, Beijing, Shandong, and other places.

"Mushrooms have the characteristics of good economic benefits, short planting cycle, high efficiency, and quick effectiveness. Seeing these advantages, we have developed a forest economy in 100 acres of forest, set up more than 800 breeding racks, and purchased 150000 mushroom sticks. This year, the village collective income is expected to exceed 500000 yuan." Yu Youming, the secretary of the Shanan Village Party Branch, said that it is currently the season for picking and selling, and the price per kilogram exceeds 8 yuan. While the village collective economic income has increased, villagers have also achieved nearby employment.

At the same time, behind the greenhouse, the village also built a mushroom drying and processing workshop. Workers put the selected inferior mushrooms into a dryer and process them into dried mushrooms. The use of drying equipment for initial processing and sale not only solves the problem of poor sales of secondary grade mushrooms, but also greatly increases the selling price of the product.
Not only in perfume Town, many places in Jingyuan County have vigorously developed edible fungus planting as a key industry.
In Mahetan Village, Xinmin Township, on the banks of the Cedi River, the mushroom planted by Yu Caixia's family in an idle cowshed has also shown a promising rise. "Since the introduction of shiitake mushrooms in the village last year, it has brought a new income to my family. While working from home, I can also take care of the elderly and children, and if I want to farm, I can also free up my hands," said Yu Caixia.

Mahetan Village has 8 village groups and is a local ecological immigrant village, with each household equipped with a 30 square meter cowshed. In 2021, Mahetan Village deeply implemented the "Million Immigrant Wealth Enhancement Action", which solved the problems of small cowshed area and dirty and disorderly living environment caused by cattle farming in immigrant villages through the method of "leaving households and entering parks". Some cowsheds have become idle. To this end, the local government fully utilizes idle cowsheds after entering the park to open up new channels for income growth, revitalizes idle cowshed resources, renovates idle cowsheds in new rural areas, transforms and develops the mushroom industry, and provides villagers with an additional income.
In recent years, Jingyuan County has utilized its ecological advantages to seek new forms of characteristic industry development, tailored to local conditions to develop the mushroom cultivation industry. With the construction of the Liupanshan characteristic mushroom cultivation demonstration base as the starting point, key links in the industrial chain such as mushroom production and large-scale planting have been improved, and a preliminary industrial development pattern with "three parks and three patches" as the core has been formed. At present, Jingyuan County has planted 4.43 million strains of mushrooms such as morel, fungus, shiitake, and shiitake, demonstrating and driving 546 households, achieving a win-win situation of ecological and economic benefits.
