Japanese media claims: This move by both countries targets Chinese industries | India | Both countries
According to the Daily News of Japan on July 21, Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry, Yasuo Nishimura, who is currently visiting India, held talks with Indian Minister of Railways, Communications, Electronics, and Information Technology Ashvini Vaishnow in New Delhi on July 20, and jointly signed a memorandum of understanding including strengthening policy dialogue and industrial cooperation in the semiconductor field.
The report claims that Japan and India play an important role in the "Four Party Security Dialogue", aiming to strengthen China's semiconductor supply system.
The report states that India has a high dependence on China in semiconductors and is urgently promoting localization. Japan's advantageous areas are not semiconductor products, but materials and production equipment, and cooperation with India can benefit both sides. Moreover, as India's economy grows, its semiconductor market will continue to expand.
According to reports, the June summit between the United States and India also discussed strengthening the semiconductor supply system. American semiconductor giants Micron Technologies and Applied Materials have both announced that they will invest heavily in building semiconductor factories in India. China will implement export controls on rare metals such as gallium in August, which is an essential raw material for semiconductor manufacturing.
