Japan, the United States, and South Korea plan to hold joint military exercises every year. Japanese media: In response to the joint statement between China and North Korea | summit | military exercises
According to the Yomiuri Shimbun on August 11th, the Japan US South Korea summit scheduled to be held in the United States on August 18th will reach a consensus on the annual trilateral talks, which will be included in a joint statement. At the same time, the Japanese Self Defense Force and the armies of the United States and South Korea also plan to hold joint military exercises every year. The purpose of this move is to demonstrate the close unity of the three countries and to contain North Korea and China.
The US Ambassador to Japan, Emmanuel, revealed the above information in an interview with media outlets such as Yomiuri Shimbun on the 10th.
According to reports, the summit between Japan, the United States, and South Korea will be chaired by US President Biden and held at Camp David on the outskirts of Washington, D.C. Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and South Korean President Yoon Seok yeol will attend the talks. This is the first time that the three leaders have held a trilateral meeting specifically. This is also the first time since Biden took office in 2021 that he has invited foreign leaders to visit Camp David, and it is an opportunity to showcase the trust relationship between leaders at home and abroad.
This meeting is positioned as the first regular summit and will be held annually in the future, with the aim of strengthening cooperation to promote a "free and open Indo Pacific".

According to reports, after the summit meeting held by Japan, the United States, and South Korea on the 18th, they will issue a joint statement and intend to adopt the Camp David principle to deepen cooperation. Currently, relevant coordination is underway. Emmanuel explained, "At the beginning of a new chapter, the three countries will unite and participate around common principles."
It is expected that the joint statement will not only stipulate that the Self Defense Force and the US and South Korea regularly conduct joint military exercises, but also include the prompt sharing of North Korean missile related intelligence.
According to reports, the United States, Japan, and South Korea held joint anti submarine training in the Sea of Japan last September against North Korea's submarine launched missiles. Although the Self Defense Forces and the US military conduct joint training at any time, the three countries have never conducted routine regular training. In the context of North Korea repeatedly launching ballistic missiles, the three countries hope to strengthen their containment and response capabilities by strengthening military contacts.
The joint statement will also propose cooperation in areas such as economic security and cutting-edge technology.
The report also stated that considering China's actions, the joint statement will include strengthening the supply chain of important materials such as semiconductors and addressing China's economic deterrence.
