Japan has reintroduced South Korea into the "export whitelist", after four years, the Japanese government | South Korea | exports
According to the Japan Broadcasting Association, starting from July 21st local time, the Japanese government has re listed South Korea as a target country for preferential measures that can simplify export procedures.
According to reports, after South Korea returns to the "whitelist", most of the machine tools and other products that previously required individual export permits can be exempted from individual application procedures.
The governments of Japan and South Korea also signed a memorandum of understanding in July to hold regular policy dialogues at the bureau level. If there are any problems in export management in the future, appropriate measures will be taken through the dialogue.
The trade dispute between Japan and South Korea began in 2018. The Supreme Court of South Korea ruled that Japanese companies should compensate South Korean workers forcibly recruited during the colonization of the Korean Peninsula, and detained Japanese related companies after their investment in South Korea. In 2019, Japan strengthened its review of three types of semiconductor industry raw materials exported to South Korea, and subsequently excluded South Korea from the "export whitelist" that could facilitate trade.
NHK stated that in March 2023, the governments of Japan and South Korea held a director level policy dialogue to adjust the implementation measures of export controls for the three products mentioned above. Afterwards, the Japanese government decided at a cabinet meeting held in June to re list South Korea as a target country for preferential measures, effective from midnight on July 21.
