As the Dragon Boat Festival approaches, the Dragon Boat Open Competition in Neijiang, Sichuan has kicked off. This year, the local dragon boat competition not only has a larger number of participants, but also a richer content. Various programs such as dragon and lion dance and water performances have also been staged.
CCTV reporter Zhao Xiong: I am currently on the banks of the Tuojiang River in Neijiang City, Sichuan Province. The water behind me is participating in this year's Dragon Boat Festival dragon boat race. At the scene, we can see sailors quickly rowing oars according to the rhythm of gongs and drums, and four parallel dragon boats rushing towards the finish line. This year's dragon boat competition is divided into four groups, with one round determining the winner and the final ranking based on time.
On the 18th, 16 teams and more than 350 contestants from Neijiang competed with each other in chasing waves with PaddlePaddle on the water surface. Each dragon boat has 22 athletes, with a total weight of nearly 2 tons. This competition is set as a 500 meter straight race, with the starting and ending points flowing downstream. During the Dragon Boat Festival, the water flow of the Tuojiang River is relatively large. To achieve full speed of the giant dragon boat, all participants need to maintain a high level of consistency in their movements and rhythm, pay attention to balance on both sides while rowing, and control the direction. After multiple rounds of competition, the dragon boat team from Zizhong County in Neijiang performed exceptionally well and won the championship with an outstanding time of 1 minute and 44 seconds.
In addition to dragon boat races, various performances such as dragon and lion dances and water performances were also performed on the day of the event. The cultural and folk activities of the Dragon Boat Festival will continue from the 18th until July 2nd.
