It is a tragedy for Pakistan, as their father and son were killed in a deep-sea submersible due to the Titan | funding | Pakistan
Recently, it was confirmed that the Titanic deep-sea submersible carrying five people to investigate the wreckage of the cruise ship Titanic had disintegrated underwater, resulting in the death of all crew members. Two of the passengers, Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman Dawood, come from a well-known family in Pakistan that conducts scientific charity funding. They are both members of the Dawood Foundation.
The Dawood Foundation has established Dawood Engineering and Technology University, Karachi Business School, MagnifiScience Center, Pakistan's first contemporary science museum, and Dawood Public School in Karachi to provide high-quality science education for girls.
"The deaths of Shahzada Dawood and Suleman Dawood are a huge tragedy for Pakistan," said Atta ur Rahman, a chemist and former science minister at the University of Karachi. "Over the past fifty or sixty years, the Dawood family has made significant contributions to education and science."
Members of the Dawood family have posted a statement on the foundation's website regarding Shahzada Dawood and Suleman Dawood, expressing gratitude to all those who participated in the rescue operation and supported them.
It is reported that the submarine involved in the accident is owned by the submarine development company Oceangate of the United States. The company launched a tour and inspection service for the wreckage of the Titanic in 2021, and had already organized multiple similar events before the accident. Previously, the safety of the deep submersibles developed by the company had been questioned.
Roderick Smith, an engineering professor at Imperial College London, said in an interview that the Titan appeared to have crashed due to a ruptured pressure hull, but the specific situation needs to be salvaged and thoroughly investigated before it can be finally determined.
On June 22, officials from the US Coast Guard announced at a press conference that an unmanned deep-sea vehicle had discovered the wreckage of the Titanic at a distance of about 500 meters from the bow of the ship, which was characterized by a catastrophic implosion.
In addition to Dawood and his son, the five passengers who died this time were also businessman and explorer Hamish Harding, explorer Paul Henri Nargeolet, and co-founder of Ocean Gate Stockton Rush.
