Is there a plan to abolish Jiangyin and Yixing into districts? Official response: will accelerate the integrated development of Wuxi city | Wuxi | Official
Recently, news about the zoning adjustment of Jiangyin City and Yixing City under Wuxi, Jiangsu Province has once again attracted attention.
A reporter from Pengpai News noticed that on June 27th, a netizen left a message on the "Political Civil Interaction" column of the Jiangsu Provincial Government: Recently, they saw rumors on the internet about "Jiangyin City and Yixing City withdrawing from the city and establishing districts.". In recent years, a series of important projects such as Xiake Bay Science City, Xicheng S1 Line, Jiangyin Campus of Jiangnan University, Changshan Avenue Expressway, and Xicheng Road Expressway have also been carried out around the integration of Xicheng.
The netizen expressed that as a local, they are very concerned about the trend of changes in their hometown, so they would like to inquire whether there is a plan to abolish the city and establish a district in Yixing City, Jiangyin? If there is no such plan, how does the government consider the future development of these three cities? If there is such a plan, which step has been taken?
On June 30th, the Jiangsu Provincial Development and Reform Commission responded that regarding your concern about "Jiangyin City and Yixing City being abolished into districts", given the clear regulations of the Party Central Committee on administrative division adjustment and the requirement to maintain overall stability, we will actively cooperate with relevant departments to carry out coordinated research work. Regarding the future development of Wuxi, Jiangyin, and Yixing, we support actively cultivating the two sub central cities of Jiangyin and Yixing, accelerating the coordinated development of Xicheng and Xiyi, achieving the integrated development of Wuxi's urban area, and enhancing the overall competitiveness of Wuxi's central city. Thank you for your understanding and support of development and reform work!

Jiangyin City and Yixing City are both county-level cities under the jurisdiction of Wuxi City.
After the liberation of Jiangyin on April 23, 1949, it belonged to the Changzhou Special Zone of the Southern Jiangsu Administration. In 1953, it was transferred to the Suzhou area. In March 1983, the city administered county system was implemented and it was transferred to Wuxi City. In April 1987, with the approval of the State Council, the county was abolished and the city was established.
Yixing was under the jurisdiction of Changzhou Special Zone from June 1949 to January 1953, Suzhou Special Zone from January 1953 to February 1956, Zhenjiang Special Zone from February 1956 to March 1983, and Wuxi City from March 1983. Yixing County was abolished in January 1988 and Yixing City was established.
In recent years, there have been continuous calls in the public opinion field to accelerate the adjustment of districts such as Jiangyin and Yixing, but none of them have been officially confirmed.
At present, in addition to the two county-level cities mentioned above, Wuxi also includes Liangxi District, Xishan District, Huishan District, Binhu District, Xinwu District, and Jiangsu Wuxi Economic Development Zone.
