Is it "overusing talent" or "upgrading dormitory management"?, Shandong University plans to hire two master's degree students as apartment administrators | administrators | underutilized talents
Recently, the news that Shandong University plans to hire two master's degree apartment administrators: one from Harbin Institute of Technology and one from overseas has attracted public attention. Many netizens have questioned this, believing that the correlation between the position of apartment administrator and professional degree is not high, and hiring highly educated talents may be a form of overuse.

The official website of the Student Apartment Management Service Center of Shandong University released a notice on June 27th stating that the two apartment administrators planned to be recruited by the center are both non career management positions. One of them is a master's student in architecture at Harbin Institute of Technology, and the other is a master's student in wine business at the University of Adelaide in Australia.

In fact, multiple media outlets have also mentioned the recruitment announcements for related positions previously released by the Student Apartment Management Service Center of Shandong University in relevant reports. The announcement clearly states that the position being recruited this time is a management position, with job responsibilities including ideological and political education, secretarial work, and administrative work in student apartments.
Some netizens pointed out that the apartment administrators recruited by the Student Apartment Management Service Center of Shandong University are not the same as the traditional "dormitory managers".
On July 1st, Xiong Bingqi, an educational scholar, commented in an article published in the Xinjing Daily that the "upgrade of dormitory management" should also be understood from the perspective of the academy system when Shandong University plans to hire a master's degree from Harbin Institute of Technology as a dormitory manager. In fact, with the development of society and the popularization of higher education, the connotation of traditional positions should be upgraded.
The article points out that as early as 2009, Shandong University established the Mount Taishan School of Honor of the Modern Academy System, and constructed the "three systems and seven modernizations" training model, including the tutorial system, the study tour system, the residential college system, the mobility of student management, the personalization of training programs, the internationalization of training methods, and the research of learning methods. The reform of the academy system and the accommodation college system requires more than traditional dormitory management. Traditional dormitory management, although also playing the educational role of collective dormitories, mainly focuses on safety management and cleaning and sanitation services, and rarely holds cultural activities such as academic salons and lectures in dormitories and living communities. However, traditional dormitories do not have libraries, reading rooms, or venues for students to engage in activities.
Behind the controversy over whether recruiting master's apartment administrators at Shandong University is a case of overuse or upgrading of dormitory management, the phenomenon of "degree competition" that is now quite common in the job market cannot be ignored.
Previously, the announcement of the planned recruitment for spring 2023 by Wenzhou Airport Group also received public attention.
According to the announcement, Mr. Bie from the Civil Engineering program at Henan University of Technology, Mr. Chen from the Animal Science program at Zhejiang University, and Mr. Qiu from the Architecture program at Zhejiang University of Technology are planned to be hired as "field workers and bird repellents.". Wenzhou airport staff explained in a media interview that bird repellents belong to professional professions, and "bird repellent" requires staff to quickly identify which type of bird it is and take different preventive measures based on their habits, volume, feeding habits, flight altitude, and danger level.
At that time, Chao News published a commentary article stating that adhering to the concept of "proportionality" and "matching" between prestigious schools and work was actually a narrow understanding, reflecting the backwardness of thinking. Today, higher education has been popularized and expanded for many years. In the increasingly fierce competition, diversified employment models are an inevitable trend... To be honest, students from prestigious schools are easily labeled, and society has higher expectations for them. In reality, there is no direct relationship between work performance and educational level. In other words, the halo of a prestigious school in the workplace can only continue to shine through hard work.
