Irresponsible and unpopular, Ministry of Foreign Affairs: Despite opposition, Japan forcefully promotes the international discharge of pollutants into the sea | Concerns | People's hearts
On July 10th, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning presided over a regular press conference.
A reporter asked, according to reports, on the 7th, the Japan Atomic Energy Regulatory Commission issued an acceptance certificate to Tokyo Electric Power Company regarding the Fukushima nuclear contaminated water discharge facility. Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida stated that there have been no changes to the plan to start the nuclear contaminated water discharge this summer. Previously, Japanese media reported that the Japanese government is likely to initiate sea discharge in August. What is China's comment on this?
Mao Ning stated that China has repeatedly emphasized that Japan has not addressed the international community's concerns about the legitimacy of Japan's sea discharge plan, the reliability of purification devices, and the completeness of monitoring plans. The safety of Japan's sea discharge plan has been widely questioned, and the comprehensive assessment report of the International Atomic Energy Agency has limitations and one-sidedness. It has not addressed the aforementioned concerns of the international community and cannot be used by Japan as a permit for sea discharge. Director General Grosi has repeatedly stated that the agency will not endorse the Japanese decision to discharge the sea.

Mao Ning pointed out that the world is currently paying attention to the potential impact of Fukushima nuclear contaminated water on marine environment, food safety, and human health. The Japanese government only cares about when to get rid of the trouble of nuclear contaminated water, and does not care about how much effort, resources, and risks other countries need to put in to deal with Japan's nuclear contaminated water discharge into the sea. The Japanese side disregards strong opposition from both domestic and foreign sources and forcefully promotes the discharge of nuclear contaminated water into the sea, which is selfish, irresponsible, and unpopular.
"The Chinese side once again urges the Japanese side to immediately halt their plans to discharge water into the sea and dispose of nuclear contaminated water in a responsible manner," Mao Ning said.
