Interview with CCTV Reporter | Russian Diplomat: Japan Should Negotiate with the International Community on Nuclear Polluted Water Discharge Plan Vienna United Nations | Japan | International
On the 7th local time, the International Atomic Energy Agency Board of Directors meeting was held in Vienna, the capital of Austria. In response to the issue of Japan's Fukushima nuclear contaminated water discharge into the sea, Russia's Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Vienna, Ustinov, stated in an interview with CCTV reporters that many member states of the International Atomic Energy Agency are concerned about Japan's discharge of nuclear contaminated water, believing that Japan lacks transparency on this issue and is concerned that its strong push for a nuclear contaminated water discharge plan will affect the global ecosystem.
Russian Deputy Representative to the United Nations in Vienna, Ustinov: These concerns are objectively present, including concerns about the ecosystem and the environment, especially concerns about Japan's responsibility in regional ecosystems. We are all neighboring countries and a part of the entire region. We hope that everything can be transparent and based on science.

Ustinov pointed out that the evaluation conducted by the Technical Working Group of the International Atomic Energy Agency in Japan cannot serve as an endorsement of Japan's decision to discharge into the sea. The Japanese side should fully listen to the opinions of various countries before deciding on their handling methods.
Ustinov, Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the United Nations in Vienna: Japan should consult with neighboring countries and engage in discussions within Japan, so Japan should not rush to discharge nuclear contaminated water. We need to have a clear understanding of whether the treatment method chosen by Japan can effectively remove highly dangerous radioactive nuclides from nuclear contaminated water

Ustinov emphasized that Japan should face the concerns of the international community and shoulder its responsibilities effectively.
Russian Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Vienna, Ustinov: The entire international community should be aware of the progress of this incident, and currently we see that Japan has not fully negotiated its plan, and we must advance the plan to discharge nuclear contaminated water into the sea no matter what. Many neighboring governments are willing to negotiate with Japan and urge Japan to do so, hoping to change its approach.
