Afghan interim government spokesperson Mujahid recently stated in an interview with Xinhua News Agency in Kandahar that Afghanistan attaches great importance to developing bilateral relations with China and appreciates China's role in the Afghan issue.
"Our relationship with China is very important, and we attach great importance to it, especially in the economic and diplomatic fields," said Mujahid. "China's position on the Afghanistan issue is commendable!"
On August 30, 2021, as the last US transport plane took off from Kabul International Airport, the 20-year war in Afghanistan ended with the hasty withdrawal of the US military. To this day, Afghanistan still has many industries to thrive. China maintains exchanges with the interim government of Afghanistan in an equal and respectful manner, takes practical actions to help alleviate economic and livelihood difficulties in Afghanistan, and conducts intensive multilateral coordination related to Afghanistan.
Mujahid said that in the past two years, China has played a positive role in the peaceful reconstruction of Afghanistan and the achievement of peace and stability in the surrounding areas, based on the principle of respecting Afghanistan's independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
"China has made a voice for the Afghan people on the international stage," Mujahid said. "We appreciate China's efforts, and we are grateful to China."
Mujahid also stated that China provided timely humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan when it faced difficult reconstruction and suffered from natural disasters such as floods and earthquakes. "The Afghan people have received sympathy and assistance during difficult times, especially in the face of disasters. Thank you to the Chinese people!" said Mujahid.
When it comes to the economic and trade relations between Afghanistan and China, Mujahid called on more Chinese enterprises and investors to invest in Afghanistan, hoping that Afghanistan can learn from China's development experience. He stated that the interim government of Afghanistan will strive to improve the domestic investment environment, accelerate infrastructure construction, and attract more international investors, including China.
Since 2022, China Arab economic and trade cooperation has steadily resumed, with bilateral trade volume reaching 1.028 billion US dollars last year, a year-on-year increase of 19.8%.
