The "Pingqiao Village" described by Mr. Lu Xun is now Anqiaotou Village, Yuecheng District, Shaoxing City, Zhejiang Province. Coming here, the rice paddies are verdant, with pink walls and black tiles, small bridges and flowing water, creating a beautiful new atmosphere in the countryside.

"To make industrial revitalization the top priority of rural revitalization," said Xuan Mingde, Secretary of the Party General Branch of Anqiaotou Village. With the continuous promotion of the "Ten Million Project", the development path of Anqiaotou Village has become clear: empowering rural revitalization with culture, relying on the original charm of Jiangnan water, and building livable, business friendly, and beautiful rural areas.
Since 2018, Anqiaotou Village has been focusing on enhancing its appearance, improving the village environment, and constructing characteristic tourist destinations such as literary scene check-in, artistic and poetic rural residential areas, and rural children's experience areas. In 2020, the graduate creative base of Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts settled in Anqiaotou Village. Taking inspiration from Lu Xun's classic works, students presented them through art forms such as painting, sculpture, and anime, attracting many tourists.
The student social practice base of Tsinghua University is also located in Anqiaotou Village. The students not only carried out social practice activities in the village, but also designed a cultural auditorium for Anqiaotou Village. The ancient and elegant auditorium complements the village environment. Village cadre Huang Li said, "The arrival of college students in the village has injected fresh vitality into the countryside and brought many good ideas." At the initiative of the students, the cultural hall regularly holds lectures on legal education and lectures on the "Fengqiao Experience". "Everyone has a stronger legal awareness, fewer conflicts, and a more civilized rural atmosphere." Huang Li said.
"When college students come to the village, it's different." Villager Fan Dagen likes to run to the senior school. "There are calligraphy training classes here, as well as Yue Opera and dance classes. The courses are rich, and not only me, but everyone is willing to come."
Nowadays, the integration of culture and tourism has become a new highlight in Anqiaotou Village. Landscapes such as Wangxiang Tower, melon fields in Runtu, and Menghui Pingqiao Park allow tourists to have a close encounter with water town life; Xun Ge Vegetable Garden provides tourists with a scene to experience rural life.
The cultural life of villagers is becoming increasingly rich. The graceful qipao runway show, the melodious Yueju opera performance, and the humorous parrot play... Every weekend, there is always a continuous program on the social drama stage, with villagers performing lively on stage and tourists enjoying themselves off stage. "Our stage has programs every week," said 69 year old villager Chen Yuexian, who participated in the Yue Opera class and dance team, enjoying his life.
Last November, the first "Water Community Opera Festival" in Anqiaotou Village was successfully held, and Chen Yuexian and sisters also participated in it, which restored the lively scene of Lu Xun going to Zhao Zhuang to see a play when he was a child. The square was crowded with audience tourists.
Anqiaotou Village has taken a ride in cultural tourism and opened new restaurants such as restaurants and rice wine restaurants at the village entrance. "A villager made cowpea cake, which sold for nearly 2000 yuan in 6 days, and a villager set up a stall to sell dried vegetable cakes, which sold for thousands of yuan in a holiday." Xuan Mingde introduced that the villagers tasted the sweetness of cultural and tourism integration.
"With the deepening of the 'Ten Million Project', the development of the cultural and tourism industry in the village is getting better and better." Xuan Mingde said that in September last year, the bus tourism special line from Lu Xun's former residence to Anqiaotou Village was opened, attracting more tourists from Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Ningbo. During this year's May Day holiday, Anqiaotou Village received a total of 30000 tourists and generated nearly 200000 yuan in related income.
At the beginning of 2021, the village was listed as one of the 13 pioneering villages for rural revitalization in Shaoxing. "In the future, we will develop deep cultural tourism, create characteristic homestays, and further promote study tours, striving to make more tourists willing to come and stay," said Xuan Mingde.
