India decides to restrict the import of certain personal computer products | Indian government | Personal computers
According to CNN on the 4th, in order to promote the development of local manufacturing, the Indian government has recently decided to impose restrictions on the import of some personal computer products.
The Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry announced on the 3rd local time that importers now need to apply for a license to bring laptops, tablets, personal computers, and other electronic devices into the country. According to reports, India implemented similar restrictions on the import of smart TVs in 2020.
According to Reuters, from April to June this year, India's electronic product imports amounted to $19.7 billion, an increase of 6.25% compared to the same period in 2022.
There are reports that before the above-mentioned restrictive measures were introduced, India had already taken measures many years ago to force relevant manufacturers to choose to import components for local assembly and manufacturing in India by raising import tariffs on various types of complete machine products such as smartphones and personal computers. While continuously raising tariffs, the Indian government is also attracting whole machine brand manufacturers to invest and build factories locally through relevant incentive policies.
