At this point, the second round of central ecological and environmental protection inspections has completed the accountability work for the transfer of issues and has been made public to the public.
The last batch of accountability released today involves Hebei, Jiangsu, Inner Mongolia, Xizang, Xinjiang and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps. Among them, there are prominent issues related to illegal mining in Xinglong County, Chengde, Hebei Province, and inadequate implementation of industrial restructuring in the steel industry in Handan; Jiangsu Province has not effectively promoted the cleaning and improvement of the Yangtze River shoreline in Zhenjiang, and the environmental problems in the Suqian section of the Grand Canal are prominent; The Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region has prominent illegal and irregular mining issues related to the Bayannur Urad Front Banner iron mine, as well as illegal water intake and use in the Qipanjing area of Ordos; The Xizang Autonomous Region involved in the Changdu Cement Project, which was approved to be small and built to be large, and the sand and gravel mining in Naqusani District seriously damaged the alpine grassland ecological environment; The Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps are involved in severe degradation of some ecological functional areas in the Manas River Basin, and frequent occurrence of heavy pollution weather in the "Wuchangshi" area.
At this point, the second round of central ecological and environmental protection supervision and accountability work has been fully completed, with a total of 3371 people being held accountable for 158 accountability issues transferred.
The second round of central ecological and environmental protection inspections started in July 2019 and ended in June 2022, completing inspections in six batches for 31 provinces, Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and 6 central enterprises nationwide. A total of 2164 rectification tasks have been identified, and as of May 2023, 61% of the rectification tasks have been completed.
