During the poverty alleviation campaign, the local government vigorously promoted the control of barren mountain rocky desertification and planted 2000 acres of peach trees. At present, the peaches have gradually matured and the villagers are intensifying their harvesting. CCTV reporter Shi Chaojie: Through aerial photography, it can be seen that after entering summer, the mountains around me are already full of green, and this 2000 acre peach orchard is located on a relatively gentle slope. Beside me, the bright red peaches weighed heavily on the branches. As the earliest mature variety in the peach orchard, the individual size of the peach is not particularly large, with each weight ranging from three to four taels. However, the sweetness is still relatively high, reaching over ten degrees. After planting this peach forest in 2019, it is now the fourth year and this peach forest has reached its peak production period.
In the next month, the nectarines and yellow peaches in the orchard will also gradually mature. Starting from the end of May this year, over a hundred villagers in Taoyuan have been picking, sorting, packaging, and loading peaches here every day. Depending on the type of work, everyone can earn between 80 and 200 yuan per day. About 15 tons of peaches are shipped from here to markets in Guiyang, Chongqing, Chengdu, and other places every day. It is expected to harvest over 1.5 million kilograms of peaches this year, with a production value of approximately 10 million yuan.
Looking at such a bountiful harvest scene, it is hard to imagine that before 2018, this place was still a contiguous barren mountain, covered with rocks of all sizes. Let's take a look at the photos at that time, and the mountain top is covered with weeds. The villagers told me that due to the barren land and the existence of rocky desertification, the yield of traditional crops such as corn and sweet potatoes planted here in the past was very low. Most of the villagers went out to work, and the land was severely abandoned. In 2018, the local government promoted the control of rocky desertification, and the stones in the land were cleared with such equipment. About two tons of decomposed organic fertilizer were covered on each acre of land, significantly improving soil activity and making the previously compacted land loose and fertile. In addition, by raising ridges in high chambers, the fertility of peach trees is further increased.
In this peach orchard, ecological agricultural technology can be seen everywhere. By hanging insecticidal lamps and attractants, the use of pesticides has been minimized as much as possible. The growth of weeds under trees was effectively controlled by covering with biodegradable plastic film. Through deep grass cultivation in the homework zone, the transpiration of water in the hot summer is reduced, and after weeding, it can also be used as organic fertilizer backfill. At present, Taoyuan has applied for green food certification.
The development of Taoyuan has brought a large number of employment opportunities and sustained income to the local people. Since 2018, 13 villages in Daheba Town have invested a total of 550000 yuan in industrial poverty alleviation funds into orchards. The orchards return 8% of the funds as dividends to poverty-stricken households and temporary disadvantaged groups in the villages, with an annual increase of over 1000 yuan per household. Under the leadership of leading enterprises, in recent years, Daheba Town has promoted the planting of over 4000 acres of peach trees, transforming the once barren mountains into a happy "golden mountain".
