The reporter learned from Shanghai Customs that in recent years, Shanghai has consolidated and developed economic and trade cooperation with other BRICS countries, and the vitality of foreign trade has continued to be released. From January to July this year, there were a total of 526 international vessels sailing directly to and from other BRICS countries at Shanghai Port, a year-on-year increase of 1.4 times, and 602 inbound and outbound aircraft, a year-on-year increase of 1.1 times.
The convenient and accessible international routes have driven the rapid growth of imports and exports between Shanghai Port and other BRICS countries. According to statistics from Shanghai Customs, the import and export value of Shanghai ports to other BRICS countries in the first seven months of this year was 411.2 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 15.8%, accounting for 17% of the national total.

Xu Zhen, the customs declaration manager of Shanghai Huizhan International Trade Co., Ltd., the importer of this batch of South African citrus, said, "We have been importing citrus from South Africa since 2013 and have accumulated 12000 tons of imports. There will be over 5000 tons of imports planned by the end of this year."
With the continuous increase in domestic consumer demand, the variety of agricultural products imported from BRICS countries, such as South African citrus and Brazilian coffee beans, is increasing at the Yangshan Port. Li Zhenqing, Deputy Director of the Inspection Department of Yangshan Customs, introduced: "Taking fruits as an example, since the beginning of this year, Yangshan Port has imported 127 million yuan of fruits from other BRICS countries, weighing 17500 tons. Under the premise of strictly controlling the safety of imported food, we have implemented measures such as" early declaration "," two-stage access ", and" unaccompanied inspection "to facilitate customs clearance and ensure the safe and efficient clearance of imported agricultural products."
The "Qixi Festival" just passed also prompted South Africa to welcome a wave of imported flowers. At around 10am on August 21st, at the fully enclosed fresh cut flower inspection site dedicated to Shanghai Pudong International Airport, more than 18000 fresh cut flowers from South Africa, including emperor flowers and bride flowers, underwent customs inspection and quickly cleared customs.
"This batch of fresh cut flowers was imported from South Africa and transported to Pudong Airport. We will focus on checking whether the fresh cut flowers contain soil and whether there are symptoms of disease and pest hazards." Li Ping, the head of the five inspection departments at the customs' physical control inspection department of Shanghai Pudong International Airport, said, "In order to ensure that imported flowers can seize the 'fresh' market, we have opened emergency order windows at night and on weekends, achieving 'on-demand inspection' and '7-24' uninterrupted guarantee of timely clearance of fresh goods."
It is reported that in the first seven months of this year, Pudong Airport Customs supervised a total of 63.1 tons of fresh cut flowers imported from South Africa, a year-on-year increase of 65.1%.
