CCTV News: Today, the reporter learned from the Ministry of Public Security that as of the end of June 2023, the total number of motor vehicles in China reached 426 million, with 513 million drivers. In the first half of this year, the number of newly registered new energy vehicles in China reached a historic high.
According to statistics from the Ministry of Public Security, in the first half of 2023, there were 16.88 million newly registered motor vehicles in China, a year-on-year increase of 1.9%. 3.128 million new energy vehicles were newly registered nationwide, a year-on-year increase of 41.6%, reaching a historic high.

At present, there are a total of 88 cities in China with a car ownership of over 1 million vehicles, of which Beijing and Chengdu have a car ownership of over 6 million vehicles, and Chongqing, Shanghai, and Suzhou have a car ownership of over 5 million vehicles.
In terms of the number of drivers, as of the end of June, the number of motor vehicle drivers in China reached 513 million, of which 475 million were car drivers, accounting for 92.7% of the total number of drivers. In the first half of 2023, there were 11.91 million newly licensed drivers nationwide, a year-on-year increase of 8%.

In the first half of 2023, local public security traffic management departments actively promoted online traffic management services such as replacement and issuance of license plates without leaving their homes. According to statistics, a total of 58.33 million online applications for replacement and issuance of driver's and driving licenses, as well as issuance of temporary license plates, were conducted nationwide, a year-on-year increase of 30.9%.
