Imagining the Diaoyu Islands and surrounding islands being attacked by force, Japan will conduct joint practical training this month
According to the report of Nihon Keizai Shimbun on June 14, the Japanese Self Defense Forces and Haibao will carry out the first joint combat training within this month, which envisions a direct attack on Japan by force. In April, the Japanese government formulated the "management essentials" for the defense minister to command maritime protection during emergencies, and joint training was implemented in this context. The specific scenarios include the Diaoyu Islands and surrounding islands being attacked by force.
The report states that Haizi and Haibao will actually deploy ships and aircraft to confirm the joint operation situation. Haibao will share real-time intelligence collected by the "Sea Guard" drone with the Self Defense Force.
Practical training is based on the "key points for unified management" formulated by the government in April. It stipulates the necessary procedures for commanding maritime protection in the event of an incident. So far, the joint training of the Self Defense Force and Coast Guard has been limited to dealing with situations such as suspicious ships that have not evolved into armed attacks.
The report mentioned that the three security related documents confirmed at the end of last year clearly proposed strengthening cooperation between the Self Defense Force and maritime protection, and summarized the methods of cooperation in the event of a military attack.
The report states that the Ministry of Defense, the Self Defense Force, and the Coast Guard conducted tabletop exercises online at the end of May. The Ministry of Defense located in the Valley of Tokyo, the Marine Protection Agency located in Kasumi, the Marine Protection Headquarters of the Third District located in Yokohama City, and the Self Defense Fleet Command located in Yokosuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture are connected through a system for division of labor and sharing of intelligence.
The Self Defense Force is responding to situations where enemy fighter jets, ships, and ground forces are approaching Japanese territory, exclusive economic zones, and the surrounding high seas of Japan. Marine protection is responsible for guiding the public to seek refuge in the rear, providing intelligence to ships, search and rescue, and port counter-terrorism. The desktop exercise confirmed the aforementioned division of labor.
The next practical training will be based on tabletop exercises. "We have selected an improvement plan, which will be further tested in practical training," said Chief of Naval Staff Ryo Sakai at a press conference on the 6th
