The meeting pointed out that carrying out a special rectification of illegal eating and drinking throughout the province is a concrete action to firmly support the "two establishment" and resolutely achieve the "two maintenance". It is an important measure to purify the political ecology and optimize the business environment, and is a profound warning and legal education for the vast number of party members and cadres.

On January 10th of this year, the General Office of the Hubei Provincial Party Committee and the General Office of the Provincial Government issued the "Work Plan for Carrying out Special Rectification of Illegal Eating and Drinking Issues in the Province", deciding to carry out a six-month special rectification of illegal eating and drinking issues in the province from now until the end of June. On January 11th, the Hubei Provincial Party Committee held a mobilization and deployment meeting for the special rectification of illegal eating and drinking issues in the province, which carefully deployed the special rectification and put forward clear requirements.

It is worth noting that in the past six months, disciplinary inspection and supervision organs at all levels in Hubei Province have released multiple batches of typical cases.

For example, on August 5, 2022, Peng Binxiang, a member of the Party Group and Deputy District Mayor of Huangpi District People's Government in Wuhan, illegally accepted a banquet arranged by Chen, the legal representative of a trading company in his jurisdiction, and drank alcohol. At 23:24 that evening, Peng Binxiang was caught driving under the influence of alcohol by the Jiang'an District Traffic Brigade of the Wuhan Public Security Bureau, and was fined administratively. In February 2023, Peng Binxiang was filed for review, and other personnel were dealt with accordingly;

On the evening of January 12th this year, Li Minghua, a member of the Party Group and Deputy Director of the Ezhou Municipal Bureau of Commerce, accepted a banquet and drank alcohol at a restaurant in the urban area of Ezhou, hosted by individual entrepreneur Yang from Liangzihu District. The catering expenses were paid by Yang. After dinner, Li Minghua received a piece of high-grade cigarettes and two bottles of Baijiu from Yang. On January 19th, the Discipline Inspection Commission of Ezhou City filed a case for review against Li Minghua;

On March 22 and 23, 2023, Zhang Jun, former director of the Executive Bureau of the People's Court of Xiangyang High tech Zone, accepted invitations from legal worker Jiang and his subordinate Zhang for two consecutive days. The bureau invited five subordinates to a hotel in the High tech Zone to attend a banquet arranged by two executed objects of the High tech Zone People's Court. During the banquet, he drank alcohol provided by the executed objects and received cigarettes distributed. Zhang Jun was given a serious warning within the party, a major administrative demerit was recorded, and he was dismissed from his position as Director of the Executive Bureau of the People's Court of Xiangyang High tech Zone. All relevant personnel were dealt with accordingly.

It is worth mentioning that Jingchu Network has also published commentary articles to correct the three erroneous ideas of "section theory", "economic impact theory", and "industry specific theory" that emerged during the special rectification campaign.

Rectifying illegal eating and drinking does not mean prohibiting public officials from eating and drinking.

The "industry specificity theory" suggests that industries such as central enterprises and state-owned enterprises that participate in market operations can exceed standards or even deviate from regulations in terms of food and drink issues. The review article points out that comprehensively and strictly governing the Party, highlighting a comprehensive approach, and no industry can be "special". Once the "special" gate is opened, it is like a flood leaking out, and the discipline and rules of the Party are washed away, weak, lax, and even non-existent.
