The nomination process for the 2023 academician election of the Chinese Academy of Engineering has been completed. After deliberation at the 6th meeting of the 8th Presidium of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and approval by the Party Group of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, it has been confirmed that there are 655 valid candidates for the 2023 academician election of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
On August 31, the CAE Member announced the list of valid candidates in accordance with the provisions of the Implementation Measures for the Election of Additional Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
Pengpai News has noticed that Xu Wenwei from Huawei Technology Co., Ltd. and Wang Haifeng from Beijing Baidu Netcom Technology Co., Ltd. have been included in this list, both of which belong to the Department of Information and Electronics Engineering. Among them, Xu Wenwei's nominee is Academician Yang Shanlin, and Wang Haifeng's nominee is Academician Gao Wen.
Xu Wenwei was born in September 1963 and currently serves as a director and director of the Strategic Research Institute at Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. According to public information, Xu Wenwei joined Huawei's R&D department in 1991 and led the development of Huawei's first generation office programmable switch. He was responsible for the chip, overall technology, strategic planning, and pre research department. Previous positions include President of Europe, President of Strategy and Marketing, and CEO of Corporate Business BG. It is worth mentioning that he was shortlisted as a valid candidate for the 2021 academician election of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
Wang Haifeng, born in November 1971, is the chief technology officer of Baidu and director of the National Engineering Research Center for Deep Learning Technology and Applications. According to public information, Wang Haifeng joined Baidu in January 2010, was promoted to Vice President of the company in October 2013, Senior Vice President in May 2018, and was appointed as Chief Technology Officer in May 2019. He is the first Chinese chairman of the most influential international academic organization in the field of natural language processing, ACL, in its over 50 year history. He has been elected as a member of the ACL and the founding chairman of the ACL Asia Pacific branch; Has won honors such as the Second Prize of the 2015 National Science and Technology Progress Award, the First National Innovation Competition Award, and the Wu Wenjun Artificial Intelligence Outstanding Contribution Award; As the person in charge, responsible for undertaking major national nuclear high-tech projects, national 863 major projects, national 973 projects, and key projects of the Natural Science Foundation of China.
Wang Haifeng has been shortlisted as a valid candidate for the 2019 and 2021 academician elections of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
