The sales of "cooling appliances" continue to be popular
Since June, the temperature has gradually risen, and the continuous high temperature weather has boosted the demand for air conditioning in the market. According to statistics from Aowei Cloud Network, during the 618 shopping festival this year, the retail sales of air conditioners through all channels reached 11.95 million units, a year-on-year increase of 35.9%; The sales revenue was 41.1 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 38%.
Under the continuous high temperature weather, the demand for air conditioning in the market is constantly rising, and the sales expectations of enterprises are increasing. According to the latest production data from Aowei Cloud Network, the total production of air conditioning enterprises in July was 14.83 million units, of which 10.52 million units were sold domestically, a year-on-year increase of 30.9%; Export production was 4.31 million units, a year-on-year increase of 12.6%.
In addition to air conditioning, high temperatures have also driven an increase in sales of electric fans. According to statistics from Ovi Cloud Disk, offline sales of electric fans increased by 54.5% year-on-year in May this year, and sales increased by 42.39% year-on-year; Online sales and sales increased by 65.42% and 47.81% year-on-year, respectively. According to Meituan data, the sales of electric fans increased by 89% year-on-year in June this year, with Beijing, Chengdu, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou being the five cities with the highest purchase of electric fans in China.
Nighttime entertainment and sports unlock new consumption scenarios
Since the beginning of summer, due to the higher temperature during the daytime, people are more willing to go out for entertainment and sports during the twilight period after the sun sets.
According to Meituan data, nighttime entertainment consumption has grown rapidly in the past week, accounting for over 60% of the total nighttime consumption. More than half of the nighttime orders contributed by consumers aged 20-30. Taking bars as an example, in the past week, the nighttime order volume of bars on the Meituan platform has increased by over 40% year-on-year, and Livehouse has increased by over 80% year-on-year. More and more craft bars, small pubs, and other diversified bar formats that focus on immersive experiences and trendy gameplay are igniting a new "night" trend in the city and activating new vitality in nighttime consumption.
Night sports have also become a new trend in summer health this year. According to relevant data, the order volume of night sports and fitness in the past week has increased by 87% compared to last year, with ball games being the most popular. Billiards, badminton, and basketball are popular night sports loved by the public. In the scorching summer, skating has also become a good place to cool off and relieve the heat, and the night order volume related to the skating rink has increased by nearly 50% year-on-year.
In recent times, the number of nighttime cyclists in cities such as Beijing and Shanghai has also shown a rapid growth trend. According to research conducted by Meituan's bicycle operation and maintenance team, since June, the travel frequency of "night riders" in Beijing has increased by nearly 30% compared to the previous month. During holidays, the demand for pick-up and parking near some subway stations has increased by dozens of times compared to the previous month. In Shanghai, in the first half of 2023, the total mileage and duration of night riding for users doubled year-on-year. Among the night riding group, over 60% of users born in the 1980s and 1990s have become the main force of low-carbon night riding in Shanghai.
The popularity of summer vacation continues to rise
With the sustained high temperatures in some areas and strong demand for summer vacation, many tourist orders to cool off destinations have significantly increased.
According to Ctrip data, as of July 3rd, summer tourism orders destined for Chengde, Xining, Yichun, Kunming, and Guiyang increased by 170%, 77%, 71%, 63%, and 57% year-on-year, respectively. Grassland tours are also a popular summer vacation theme. As of July 3rd, the number of orders for grassland team tours booked during the summer vacation period increased by 255% year-on-year.
The data center of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism recently conducted a survey on the summer tourism market in traditional high-temperature cities, showing that the overall willingness to travel to these cities reached 94.6% in the third quarter of this year. Among the respondents, 38.4% of residents planned to travel twice, and 35.1% planned to travel three times.
The National Development Report on Summer Vacation Tourism released by the China Tourism Research Institute recently pointed out that the scale of China's summer vacation tourism and related markets has reached 1.2 trillion to 1.5 trillion yuan. Dai Bin, President of the China Tourism Research Institute, believes that summer tourism will provide important support for the growth of the summer tourism segment market, which is also an important basis for the optimistic expectations of the tourism market in the second half of the year.
