How green are the venues of the Universiade? Low carbon and energy-saving design reveals wisdom | Green | Universiade
"Green, smart, vibrant, and shared" is the organizing concept of the Chengdu Universiade. Through technological empowerment, green and low-carbon have become the distinctive background of the Chengdu Universiade.
At the beginning of the construction of the Chengdu Universiade venues, innovative technologies such as green buildings, low-carbon energy conservation, and smart operation were integrated. As one of the newly built core venues for the Universiade, the Phoenix Mountain Sports Park Comprehensive Gymnasium with 18000 seats is the venue for this basketball competition, equipped with a smart energy management system.

Li Changzhi, Manager of the Information Technology Group at the Basketball Stadium Center of Fenghuangshan Sports Park: This is the "strongest brain" of our venue. At the beginning of construction, we integrated a large number of sensors in various functional areas such as the distribution cabinet, light box, and drainage pipe network of the venue, and remotely started and stopped through the platform to regulate the water, electricity, and gas consumption of the entire venue. Through operation, our entire venue can save about 15% of energy.
Walking along the stairs into the Chengdu Universiade Athlete Village Delegation Service Center, one can feel the cool breeze blowing in front of them. Even without fans and air conditioning, this place can still feel cool and comfortable in the midsummer.

Georgian judo athlete Halazishvili Nika: The weather outside is very hot, but it's very cool here. It's really a great architectural design.
This semi outdoor street connects the main service functions of the delegation service center, with one end on the hillside and the other at the foot of the mountain. As the airflow passes through this narrower and wider area, it accelerates, taking away more indoor heat and moisture. This design can save approximately 70000 kilowatt hours of electricity per year for this building with a total area of 1400 square meters.

Highlighting the concept of green and low-carbon, 13 new venues have been built and 36 existing venues have been upgraded and renovated at this year's Universiade. Through various technological advancements, green, energy-saving, and low-carbon strategies have been achieved while ensuring the competition. At the same time, advocating green and low-carbon travel, 90% of the transportation from the Dayun Village to the central urban venue uses new energy vehicles, and 100% of the internal transportation of the Dayun Village uses new energy shuttle vehicles.
