How good is the quality of gold bricks? World | Country | BRICS
The 15th meeting of BRICS leaders will be held in Johannesburg, South Africa from August 22nd to 24th, Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, August 21st.
The concept of BRICS was first proposed in 2001, and its English name BRIC consists of the first letters of the English names of Brazil, Russia, India, and China. In 2011, South Africa officially joined the BRICS countries, and the ongoing "BRICS Five" countries were officially formed, with the English name BRICS.
Since the beginning of cooperation in 2006, the impact of BRICS cooperation has surpassed that of the five countries, becoming a constructive force in promoting world economic growth, improving global governance, and promoting democratization of international relations.
The BRICS countries account for approximately 30% of the world's land area and over 40% of the world's total population. They have become an important engine for driving global economic growth.
According to statistics from the World Bank, the total gross domestic product of the BRICS countries has increased from $16.59 trillion in 2013 to $25.91 trillion in 2022 in the past decade, and their proportion to the total global GDP has also jumped from 21.37% in 2013 to 25.77% in 2022.
According to the International Monetary Fund, since South Africa's accession in 2011, the annual growth rate of the total GDP of BRICS countries has surpassed that of developed economies 11 times. This leading advantage will remain stable in the next six years. The contribution rate of BRICS countries to world economic growth has long been higher than that of developed economies.
In terms of improving global governance, the BRICS countries actively promote reforms of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. The voice of developing countries in these two major global financial institutions is gradually increasing.
In the second year after the first meeting of BRICS leaders, the International Monetary Fund decided to transfer over 6% of its share to emerging markets and developing countries. After completing the 14th overall share check, the top ten members of the International Monetary Fund included four emerging market countries for the first time: China, India, Brazil, and Russia. The total share of the BRICS countries jumped from 11.493% to 14.799%.
In addition, the two important mechanisms of economic cooperation among the BRICS countries - the New Development Bank and the Emergency Reserve Arrangement - have effectively supplemented the existing global financial system and changed the current imbalance in the international financial system.
The "BRICS+" cooperation model proposed at the 2017 BRICS Xiamen Summit has further expanded the radiation and benefits of BRICS cooperation, allowing more emerging market countries and developing countries to ride the fast and free ride of development. As the rotating presidency of the BRICS countries this year, South Africa has invited heads of state from all African countries to attend the conference.
Adhering to the spirit of openness, inclusiveness, and win-win cooperation, BRICS countries welcome more like-minded partners to join the BRICS "big family" as soon as possible. Currently, more than 40 countries have expressed their desire to become members of the BRICS, and more than 20 countries have submitted formal applications.
Who will be the next partner to join the BRICS family?
