On August 7th local time, King Sihamoni of Cambodia issued a royal decree, officially appointing Hong Manai as the new Prime Minister.
According to the Cambodian China Times, according to the agenda, the seventh National Assembly of Cambodia will hold its first plenary session on August 21, and the new government will be inaugurated on August 22.
Hong Manai is the eldest son of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen and was born on October 20, 1977 in Kampong Cham Province, Cambodia. In 1993, Hong Manai, who graduated from high school, entered the University of Adelphi in the United States to study economics. One year later, he applied to join West Point Military Academy. In 1999, he graduated from West Point Military Academy, becoming the first "West Point graduate" in Cambodian history. Afterwards, he pursued a master's degree in economics at New York University and a doctoral degree in economics at the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom.
Hong Manai joined the Cambodian military in 1995 and was promoted to the rank of colonel after returning from studying in the UK and the US in 2008. He also served as the commander of the Cambodian national anti-terrorism special forces. In 2011, he was promoted to the rank of Major General, in 2013 he was promoted to the rank of Major General, in 2018 he became the Commander of the Cambodian Army, and in April 2023 he was promoted to the rank of Four Star General.

Prior to this election, Hong Manai served as Deputy Commander in Chief and Army Commander of the Cambodian Royal Army, Executive Member of the Central Committee of the Cambodian People's Party, Leader of the Central Youth Working Group, and Chairman of the Youth Movement.
On July 23 this year, Cambodia held its seventh National Assembly elections, with a total of 18 political parties including the Cambodian People's Party and the Fong Sin Bik Party participating. On the 25th, the People's Party announced its victory in the election. On the 26th, Hun Sen announced that he would no longer serve as the Prime Minister of Cambodia and that the next government would be led by Hun Manai.
On August 5th, the Cambodian National Election Commission announced the official results of the election. The People's Party received approximately 6.398 million votes, with a vote share of 82.3%, and won 120 out of 125 seats in parliament.
The National Assembly is the highest authority and legislative body in Cambodia, with a term of 5 years each. The parliamentary seats are allocated based on the election results, and the political party that receives a majority of seats is responsible for forming a new government.
