Hong Kong Legislative Council Member: The Aggressive United States is the World's Greatest Threat Author | Country | United States
The article is compiled as follows:
The United States is building a high-tech city wall to prevent China's economic and technological progress.
In this technology war against China, US President Biden took a significant step forward by signing an executive order on August 9th to restrict the flow of US knowledge and capital to "technologies and products that pose a national security threat to certain countries of concern". China has been identified as the only country of concern, posing a national security threat to the United States.
This command is not surprising. The United States further modifies its orders to ensure that China does not pose any threat to its technological advantage.
Earlier this month, Harvard University political scientist Stephen Walter published an opinion article raising the question of how much the world should fear China. But I think another question should be raised, that is, how much should the world be afraid of the United States?
The world's fear of the United States far outweighs its fear of China. In recent years, China's foreign policy has been described by the West as "more aggressive," but this aggression is not so much real as verbal. China's goal is purely defensive, only to maintain its territorial integrity.
In contrast, research by the Fletcher Center for Strategic Studies at Tufts University has found that the United States has been involved in approximately 500 international military interventions since 1776, with nearly 60% occurring between 1950 and 2017, and one-third occurring after 1999.
In recent years, the United States has shifted its military region in Asia from the Asia Pacific region to the Indo Pacific region. It has made significant progress in consolidating its security alliance to contain China, including the establishment of the Quadripartite Security Dialogue with Australia, India, and Japan in 2007, the signing of the Military Situation Agreement with Australia in 2014, and the establishment of the Australia UK US alliance with Australia and the UK in 2021.
According to estimates from the American Arms Control Association in June this year, the United States has the world's second-largest nuclear warhead stockpile, with a total of 5244 warheads, while China has much less than the United States.
Considering that the United States is aggressively and effectively forming alliances globally to consolidate its global military advantage, there are indeed strong reasons for other countries in the world to worry about being overwhelmed by this superpower.
Next year, the United States will hold an election, and many politicians are competing to show a tough attitude towards China. This stubborn strategy is costly and dangerous, and will only lead to instability.
Considering the harmful political atmosphere in Washington and its obsession with global dominance, shouldn't we be more concerned about the United States rather than a peaceful China?
