The annual R&D expenditure and the number of effective invention patents account for about one-third of the national total, with R&D intensity exceeding 3% in Shanghai, Nanjing, Hangzhou, and Hefei. As of the end of 2022, 236 hard technology enterprises were listed on the Science and Technology Innovation Board in three provinces and one city, accounting for 47.1% of the national total.
