He is going back to his home country, and on the day of Thailand's election as prime minister, he accused Thailand of having a birthday
According to Agence France Presse on August 19th, the daughter of former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra revealed that he will return to Thailand next Tuesday. On the same day, the Thai parliament will hold an important vote that may end the current political stalemate.
This 74 year old billionaire was overthrown in a military coup in 2006 and has been in self exile for 15 years.
For a long time, Thaksin has expressed his desire to return to his home country, but he faces multiple criminal charges, which he says are politically motivated.
According to the report, Thaksin's daughter Bedongdan Sinawa said on social media, "On the morning of August 22nd at 9am, I will be welcoming my father Thaksin at Langman Airport."
On the afternoon of Thaksin's return to China, there happened to be a parliamentary vote that would decide whether to approve Seth Thaksin, a member of the Thai party associated with Thaksin, as prime minister, thus ending the political uncertainty that has been ongoing for months since the May elections.
"I think the Thai people have shifted their attention away from Thaksin Shinawatra," the report quoted political analyst Willaba Baryaon as saying
Willaba expects that as soon as Thaksin returns to China, he may be taken to court.
Willaba said, "His return to China means he is confident that he will not become a victim of political games when he lands in Thailand, and there are ways to ensure his safety."
"The real question is whether he will really come back, and if so, where did he get this guarantee from?"
According to the report, Thaksin stated on social media a few days before the May election that he would return to Thailand "before his birthday" in July because he is getting older and wants to spend time with his grandchildren.
