Has Prigoren left Belarus? NATO claims to have tracked him down and "moved a bit" Leader | Wagner | NATO
On July 6th local time, NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg stated that NATO is closely monitoring the movements of the Russian private mercenary organization Wagner and its leader Prigoren.
On the 6th, Stoltenberg responded to Al Jazeera's request for comment by stating that NATO is tracking the recent movements of Wagner leader Prigoren and describing his whereabouts as "slightly moving nearby.".
"Regarding Prigoren, what we can say is that we closely monitor the movement of Wagner soldiers and Prigoren's movements." Stoltenberg said, "I won't go into detail, but we have seen some preparations for receiving a large number of Wagner soldiers in Belarus. But so far, we haven't seen so many people going to Belarus."
"Then we saw Mr. Prigoren moving slightly nearby," added Stoltenberg, who would not discuss further details.
After Wagner's mutiny, Prigoren's whereabouts became a mystery. A week ago, Belarusian President Lukashenko stated that Prime Minister Prigo had arrived in Belarus. But on July 6th, Lukashenko told the media that Prigo is currently in St. Petersburg, Russia. He also stated that the soldiers of the Wagner Group are still at various bases in Wagner.
Recently, some Russian media reported that witnesses saw Prigoren appear in St. Petersburg, Russia. It is said that he came to retrieve confiscated property and weapons from Russian authorities, but these news have not been confirmed by Russian officials.
