Harmony and Reasoning | Safeguarding the interests of the "Global South" and "BRICS" Leveraging Global Governance Change BRICS | Countries | Global
After more than a decade of development, the BRICS countries have evolved from dialogue mechanisms in Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa to important platforms for cooperation among developing countries and emerging market countries around the world.
The population of the BRICS countries accounts for over 40% of the world's total population, and their economic scale accounts for about a quarter of the world's total. They play an important role in promoting global economic recovery and stability.
In 2015, the BRICS countries established the New Development Bank to meet the specific funding needs of developing countries and promote the development of southern countries worldwide. So far, the New Development Bank has approved over $30 billion in loans, without any political conditions, for infrastructure projects in developing countries.
The BRICS countries are committed to upholding multilateralism, reforming the global governance system, and expanding the voice of developing countries on the international stage. In addition, it also promises to maintain openness and inclusiveness, strive to achieve win-win cooperation, and become an ideal development partner for marginalized or backward countries in the Western dominated world economic order. At present, more than 40 countries hope to join the BRICS Cooperation Mechanism, with more than 20 countries officially submitting applications for membership.
The 15th BRICS Leaders Meeting is scheduled to be held in Johannesburg, South Africa from August 22nd to 24th. One of the highlights of this year's summit is the invitation of African capitals to attend. This unprecedented move indicates that the BRICS countries have become a constructive force in reshaping the existing global order. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said, "Our continent is being plundered, ravaged, and exploited by other continents, so we hope to unite among the BRICS countries to promote the interests of the entire continent."
As Indian Foreign Minister Su Jiesheng once said, "BRICS countries are no longer 'substitutes' and have become an important feature of the global landscape.".
We hope that this summit will make greater contributions to building a more equitable and open global development framework, benefiting developing countries.
