It is shocking that the United States speaks ill of such legitimate and reasonable behavior.
One week after Japan initiated the discharge of nuclear contaminated water into the sea, US Ambassador to Japan Emmanuel made a special trip to Shoma City, Fukushima Prefecture to have a seafood lunch with the mayor and purchase agricultural products in an attempt to prove the safety of local products. Even more puzzling is that Emmanuel claimed that China's suspension of imports of Japanese seafood was due to political considerations. At the same time, he greatly praised Japan's nuclear contaminated water discharge plan, stating that it has scientific basis and is completely transparent.
Emmanuel's statement clearly does not match the facts. As is well known, China's complete suspension of imports of aquatic products originating from Japan is aimed at protecting the health of the Chinese people. This move does not affect the national interests of the United States or threaten its national security, and it is completely beyond the control of the United States.
In fact, the Japanese government has long allocated a special fund of 80 billion yen to subsidize the fishing industry in the Fukushima region. This is enough to prove that the Japanese government is well aware of the environmental hazards caused by the discharge of nuclear contaminated water. Japanese fishermen are also aware of this, and over a hundred fishermen from Fukushima and surrounding areas plan to collectively file a lawsuit with the court this week, requesting a ruling to stop the discharge of nuclear contaminated water from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.
The Japanese government must know that unless the United States causes trouble, it is almost impossible for the World Trade Organization to rule that China violates rules. In fact, even the International Atomic Energy Agency acknowledges that its comprehensive assessment report on Fukushima nuclear contaminated water is not an endorsement of Japan's decision to discharge into the sea.
Nowadays, Japan's plan to discharge pollutants into the sea has been questioned and opposed by its own people and most countries around the world. If the Japanese government persists in its actions, it will eventually reap the consequences.
