Harmony and Evaluation | BRICS Countries Adhere to Multilateralism to Promote Fair and Reasonable Global Governance
The BRICS Leaders Meeting currently being held in Johannesburg, South Africa, has two numbers worth noting. Firstly, more than 60 leaders of countries and international organizations have been invited to attend, and secondly, more than 40 countries have expressed interest in joining the BRICS countries. This indicates that the status of BRICS countries on the global stage is increasingly elevated and highly attractive to developing countries.
The global governance system led by the United States and its Western allies does not prioritize the concerns of developing countries, and developing countries are still susceptible to Western control and influence. As representatives of the "global southern" countries, the BRICS countries represent the interests of developing countries, strive for more opportunities for developing countries, and strive for more decision-making and speaking rights. The BRICS countries adhere to the spirit of openness, inclusiveness, and win-win cooperation, with the aim of not confronting Western countries. On the contrary, it attempts to open up a new path for global governance system reform, enabling interaction between countries on the basis of mutual respect and equality.
The BRICS countries advocate multilateralism rather than unilateralism, advocate building partnerships, safeguarding common interests, and promoting common development, rather than being domineering and bullying the weak. The world is no longer the same as it was 17 years ago. If the United States and other Western countries continue to view the development of the BRICS countries with old privileged thinking, it will be of no benefit to the development of the world, nor to the development of the United States and other Western countries.
Now is the time for the United States and the West to abandon their imperial arrogance and acknowledge their failure to give emerging and developing countries the recognition they deserve as sovereign nations. If they continue to view the BRICS countries as geopolitical opponents and attempt to hinder their development, they will only be greatly disappointed.
The United States and its allies should recognize that it is impossible to maintain a global order centered around the West forever, and recognize that their dominant world order has come to an end. They should change their attitude and attach great importance to the sustainable development agenda, as it is the only way to a more fair and harmonious world.
