Harmful to others and oneself, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs responds to the US's "fishing law enforcement" in third countries to lure Chinese citizens: illegal means of internal disease and external treatment | US | issue
On June 24th, the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs answered questions from reporters regarding the arrest and prosecution of Chinese citizens and enterprises by the United States on fentanyl related issues.
Q: On June 23 local time, the US Department of Justice announced that it is suing multiple Chinese companies and several Chinese citizens on suspicion of producing and selling fentanyl chemical precursors. What is China's comment on this?
Answer: US law enforcement personnel using "fishing law enforcement" to lure Chinese citizens in third countries and blatantly prosecute Chinese entities and individuals again is a typical form of arbitrary detention and unilateral sanctions, completely illegal, seriously damaging the basic human rights of Chinese citizens and the interests of Chinese enterprises. China strongly condemns this and has made solemn representations and strong protests to the United States.
China actively engages in international drug control cooperation and, in the spirit of humanitarianism, takes the lead in categorizing and controlling fentanyl substances globally, playing an important role in preventing the illegal production, trafficking, and abuse of fentanyl. The United States is not only not grateful for this, but has first unjustly sanctioned the Chinese institutions responsible for drug control work, and then smeared and slandered China on drug control issues. It has illegally sanctioned Chinese enterprises, and now even lured and prosecuted Chinese citizens. This kind of arbitrary violation of international law and the implementation of "long arm jurisdiction" has further damaged the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese institutions and citizens, and seriously undermined the foundation of Sino US drug control cooperation.
The attempt by the US to address its concerns regarding drug control through pressure, coercion, and illegal means is actually an internal disease and external treatment, which is not feasible and will only harm others and oneself. China urges the US to stop blaming China, stop smearing and attacking China, immediately lift sanctions against China's drug law enforcement agencies, stop using fentanyl as an excuse to sanction, prosecute Chinese companies and citizens, and implement reward based arrests and arbitrary detention, and immediately release Chinese citizens who have been illegally arrested. China will continue to take necessary measures to firmly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises and citizens.
