The "Asian Games Carbon Neutrality Pollution Reduction and Carbon Reduction Collaborative" digital management platform has recently been officially launched. The platform applies digital technology to the entire process of carbon emission collection, accounting, emission reduction, cancellation, and evaluation management, exploring the establishment of a scientific and complete carbon emission management system.
"An athlete traveling from their place of residence to Hangzhou to participate in the conference, the carbon emissions generated by his itinerary were originally calculated manually. Now, through his travel data, the carbon emissions data is automatically calculated," said the platform manager. These carbon emissions need to be offset in various ways to achieve carbon neutrality.
Currently, green and low-carbon development and addressing climate change have become a global consensus. In order to deeply implement the dual carbon strategy and practice the concept of green hosting, the Hangzhou Asian Games proposed the goal of creating the first carbon neutral Asian Games in April 2022. At present, special actions such as green venue construction, green energy supply, green operation management, and "waste free Asian Games" construction have been successfully carried out to minimize carbon emissions during the preparation process.
All Asian Games venues and office spaces in Hangzhou will use green electricity. Since the launch of the Hangzhou Asian Games green electricity trading, the cumulative trading volume has reached 621 million kilowatt hours. Through green electricity trading, green electricity from thousands of miles away can be injected into the Asian Games venues through the ultra-high voltage power grid.
Among the 56 competition venues for the Hangzhou Asian Games and Asian Paralympics, only 12 have been newly built; In the design and construction process, develop green and healthy building design guidelines, and prioritize the use of new technologies, materials, and processes. Prioritize the use of new energy vehicles and machinery to reduce carbon emissions during venue operations.
The Hangzhou Asian Games will integrate the concept of green and low-carbon into the design and operation of competition venues. The swimming pool and gymnasium of Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center are connected buildings, together forming the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center Sports Swimming Pool. The 210 light guide tubes set up diffuse natural light from outdoors to indoors through the top daylighting cover, with a service life of up to 25 years and an annual power saving of about 100000 kilowatt hours.
The roof covering area of the Fuyang Aquatic Sports Center in Hangzhou is about 24000 square meters, with various green plants planted. This not only increases the greening rate of the entire venue to 45%, but also has three major functions: carbon fixation and oxygen release, thermal insulation, and reducing rainwater runoff.
In Hangzhou, the "Green Asian Games" have deeply rooted a green and low-carbon lifestyle in people's hearts. The Asian Organizing Committee has issued ten green office initiatives to reduce carbon emissions in the office sector. The "Green Asian Games · Low Carbon with You" sponsored the enterprise's green action, with 45 units donating carbon quotas, carbon credits, carbon inclusiveness, etc. for a total of 1.068 million tons of carbon offsetting. The "I Plant Trees for the Asian Games" activity was carried out, with over 18 million people participating, planting over 48 million trees, and constructing 26 carbon neutral forests for the Asian Games.
At the time of the competition, athletes can reduce carbon emissions in their participation and daily life through various green behavior methods. They can also use the "Cloud Asian Games Village" low-carbon account to accumulate points and exchange for green and low-carbon products. Viewers can reduce carbon emissions by choosing green viewing behaviors such as electronic tickets, green travel, and garbage sorting.
