The recent meeting of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China pointed out that since the beginning of this year, the national economy has continued to recover and overall rebounded, high-quality development has been solidly promoted, industrial upgrading has accumulated and developed, food and energy security has been effectively guaranteed, and the overall social situation has remained stable, laying a good foundation for achieving the annual economic and social development goals. The meeting emphasized that China's economy has enormous development resilience and potential, and the long-term positive fundamentals have not changed, and important arrangements have been made for economic work in the second half of the year. This has injected confidence and provided guidance for us to seize the opportunity, promote sustained economic recovery and strive to achieve the annual development goals.
Recently, Hubei, a major province in central China, released its economic "mid-term exam" transcript, highlighting the vitality and potential of economic development. According to relevant data, the economy of Hubei Province started steadily and continued to improve in the first half of the year. The province achieved a year-on-year growth of 5.6% in GDP, which was 0.5 percentage points faster than the first quarter; The total retail sales of consumer goods increased by 9.0% year-on-year, 1.1 percentage points faster than the first quarter. The province has added 767600 new market entities, with a total of 7.8731 million households, an increase of 6.9% compared to the end of last year; 1952 industrial enterprises above designated size were added, with a total of 18915, setting a new historical high for the same period.
One branch alone is not spring. The positive economic development in Hubei Province is a microcosm of the economic recovery situation in various parts of the country. As of July 30th, all economic data for the first half of the year in 31 provinces across the country have been released, and the economic growth in many regions has shown a significant recovery momentum. In terms of the growth rate of GDP of each province in the first half of the year, 15 provinces such as Jiangsu and Zhejiang grew by more than 5.5%, of which Shanghai grew by 9.7%, Hainan and Xizang grew by more than 8% year on year, and Jilin and Inner Mongolia grew by more than 7%. In addition, the GDP growth rate of 21 provinces including Guangdong and Shandong exceeded their respective growth rates in the first quarter. In terms of economic output, in the first half of the year, 13 out of 31 provinces had a total GDP of over 2 trillion yuan, three more than the same period last year. Among them, Guangdong and Jiangsu have joined hands to join the "6 trillion yuan club" and have achieved impressive results.
The solid steps taken one by one are a powerful proof of the strong resilience and vitality of the Chinese economy. With the gradual manifestation of the effects of policies to stabilize growth, employment, and prices, the overall operation of the national economy has rebounded and improved. The 5.5% growth rate of the Chinese economy in the first half of the year was the fastest among major economies in the world, and it was a relatively high speed. For example, since the beginning of this year, the overall urban survey unemployment rate in China has decreased, and the employment of key groups has been effectively guaranteed. In the first half of the year, 6.78 million new urban jobs were added nationwide, an increase of 240000 compared to the same period last year, achieving 56.5% of the annual target, which is conducive to increasing residents' income. For example, the contribution of consumption to economic growth has significantly increased in the first half of this year. According to statistics, the contribution rate of final consumption expenditure to economic growth exceeded 70%, and structural optimization has released new momentum for economic growth.
This year is the beginning year of fully implementing the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. In the first half of the year, under the strong leadership of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, more than 1.4 billion Chinese people worked together to overcome difficulties, and China's economic development achieved "recovery and improvement" and "steady progress in high-quality development", which was hard won. At present, we must seize the opportunity, conscientiously implement the relevant deployments of the Party and the state, continuously promote the continuous improvement of economic operation, continuously enhance endogenous momentum, continuously improve social expectations, and promote the effective improvement of quality and reasonable growth of quantity in the economy. We have the confidence, conditions, and ability to achieve the annual economic and social development goals and tasks with high quality.
