On the 4th, it was learned from the Forestry Bureau of Guangdong Province that in recent years, Guangdong has continuously promoted forest protection and management, improved the living environment, promoted ecological livability construction, and enhanced the happiness and sense of gain of the people.
Since the beginning of this year, Guangdong Province has completed the optimization and improvement of 1.83 million mu of forest stands, voluntarily planted 2.01 million trees from all sectors of society, and launched 180 green and beautiful ecological construction demonstration sites in Guangdong.
Forest area has increased by 67% in 40 years, and Guangdong has been "turning green" all along
Green and forest are important indicators in modern living environments. In recent years, the forestry system in Guangdong has regarded ecological protection and restoration as a systematic project, starting from the overall integrity of the ecosystem, adhering to the priority of protection and natural restoration, deeply promoting the governance of forest and grass wet sand ecosystems, and building a green ecological security barrier. At present, the forest area in the province reaches 143 million mu, with a forest coverage rate of 53.03% and a storage volume of 578 million cubic meters.
In recent years, Guangdong has made every effort to create a national forest city, actively encouraging the public to plant trees voluntarily, vigorously promoting national greening, and sparking a wave of tree planting and environmental protection in southern Guangdong. Since the beginning of this year, various regions have focused on the "six major actions" of green and beautiful ecological construction in Guangdong to seize forest time and progress, vigorously carry out afforestation and greening work. The province has held a total of 5650 voluntary tree planting activities, with a total of 503000 people participating and planting about 2.01 million trees.
With the joint efforts of the whole province, Guangdong's green territory continues to expand. Currently, the forest area in the province reaches 143 million mu, an increase of 67% compared to the early 1980s. Over the past 40 years, the National Compulsory Tree Planting Movement has been launched, with a total of over 1.2 billion people participating in voluntary tree planting in the province, planting over 5 billion trees.
According to the Action Plan for Precise Improvement of Forest Quality in Guangdong Province, from 2023 to 2035, Guangdong will complete a total task of 46.26 million mu of precise improvement of forest quality, including 15.65 million mu of optimized forest stands and 30.61 million mu of forest nurturing, significantly improving the forest quality in the province, optimizing forest structure, and ranking among the top in terms of unit area forest biomass increment and carbon sink capacity in the country.

In recent years, Guangdong has made every effort to improve the quality of forest cities. Currently, the province has achieved full coverage of forest city construction in prefecture level and above cities, and 14 cities have been awarded the honorary title of "National Forest City". The Pearl River Delta Forest City Cluster has been basically completed, and 6 cities have proposed to create national forest county towns throughout the region.
Through the construction of parks and green spaces in various parts of Guangdong, a new landscape of green beauty has been created. The number of parks and green spaces has been increasing year by year, and the ecological livability level in the province has steadily improved. Forest parks, wetland parks, urban parks, community parks, pocket parks... All kinds of parks allow citizens to look up at the green, look down at the flowers, and enjoy the scenery from afar while resting, making the dream of "seeing the green through the windows and entering the park outside" a reality.

The relevant person in charge of the Guangdong Provincial Forestry Bureau stated that Guangdong will comprehensively build natural reserves and urban green space systems, promote the construction of forest parks, wetland parks, mountain parks, scenic spots, botanical gardens, etc., and continuously improve the quality of point ecological spaces.
The Decision of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China on Deepening the Ecological Construction of Green and Beautiful Guangdong has set out a "roadmap" for the Guangdong path of stepping out of the new era where green mountains and clear waters are invaluable assets. At present, the province has launched 180 demonstration sites for the ecological construction of Lvmei Guangdong, and the ecological construction of Lvmei Guangdong has achieved initial results. The number of natural reserves at or above the county level has reached 1361, ranking first in the country. There are 6 internationally important wetlands, 1 national important wetland, and significant progress has been made in the construction of South China National Botanical Garden, International Mangrove Center, National Forest and Grass Administration Pangolin Conservation Research Center, and the creation of the Nanling Mountain National Park.
Recently, the Guangdong Provincial Forest Protection and Management Regulations have been revised and passed by the Standing Committee of the Guangdong Provincial People's Congress, and will come into effect on July 1st. The revision of this regulation will be conducive to promoting the continuous improvement of forest ecological quality in Guangdong Province and the continuous optimization of urban and rural living ecological environment.
