The Secretary General of the United Nations appoints Xu Haoliang as the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations and Associate Administrator of the Development Programme
On the 26th, UN Secretary General Guterres announced the appointment of Xu Haoliang from China as the UN Deputy Secretary General and Associate Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme.
Xu Haoliang will replace Usha Rao Monari from India. Xu Haoliang has served as Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations and Director of the Policy Bureau of the Development Programme since 2019. From 2013 to 2019, he served as the Assistant Director of the Development Programme and Director of the Asia Pacific Bureau. Previously, Xu Haoliang held multiple positions in the United Nations system and worked at United Nations headquarters as well as multiple regional offices in Asia Pacific, Europe, and Central Asia.
Xu Haoliang graduated from Tongji University in China and later obtained master's degrees from Stevens Institute of Technology and Columbia University in the United States.
